Our process starts with understanding your goals, your dreams and the aspiration that you have. These goals can be the big things like how will your retirement look, how will you fund those trips to Europe, Asia or North America, perhaps it is trips to Australia to enjoy time in the sun.
Once we understand what you want to achieve, we look at the risk you are prepared to take. In some cases, you can achieve your goals without taking any risk, in which case we will tell you that. However, in most cases, you will need to take on board some investment risk, so we look at your attitude to risk, how you react to investment risk and finally, your capacity for risk. Overlaying these three components allows us to recommend a portfolio that will stand the test of time. This will avoid one of the biggest mistakes investors make, which is reducing risk at times of market volatility, resulting in realising losses. Over the years, this is the biggest contributor we have seen to investors not achieving their goals.
Having understood your objectives and attitude to risk, it is time to develop a portfolio for you. There can be several iterations along the journey as we will work with you to make sure the portfolio we construct meets your goals and is understandable. It will also take into account any preferences you may have
Once we have agreed on the final portfolio, we will implement this. You will have online access to see how the investment is performing and how the individual managers we select contribute to your overall wealth.
Finally, we meet regularly to review the investment, to answer any questions you may have, and where necessary, make necessary alternations due to changes in markets, changes in the managers or simply because your goals change.
You will also have access to us to answer those questions that come up from time to time.
I started as a Financial Adviser 28 years ago, and before that had an interest in investing, buying my first shares (100 BHP) sitting in a sharebrokers office in Palmerston North in my shorts on my way home from school. Little did I know where that would take me.
Originally I qualified as a Chartered Accountant working for Coopers and Lybrand and PriceWaterHouse Coopers, having gained my Accountancy Degree in London, with Honours studying the Finance of Professional Football. I was then one of the first people in New Zealand to achieve the Certified Financial Planner designation. I also have Financial Planning qualifications from Australia and New Zealand.
I bring 28 years of experience as a Financial Adviser to discussions with clients, which will help you make better financial decisions and achieve your financial goals. I am very passionate about this. I particularly enjoy assisting clients in understanding their financial goals, aspirations, and dreams and working with them to create a plan that will take them on a journey to achieve these goals. I enjoy the long term aspect of this and meeting with clients regularly to review the progress and then celebrating when the goals are achieved." Seeing clients start with their vision and then achieve their goals is one of the biggest rewards I get.
I have looked after the investment and retirement needs for many clients and their families. Marc is experienced with individuals, couples, families, trusts and charitable organisations.
Outside of work, I am a keen cook, enjoys Travel when I can, am an enthusiast of Fiat 500 cars and an avid supporter of Watford FC.
